It may sound a bit cliche to some, but I really did have an amazing childhood. I had weird friends who enjoyed being weird around each other. One of my fondest memories from childhood was going to “Ball Park Pizza” in Laguna Niguel with my friend Brandon and his dad Roger. Brandon was involved in some local sports teams so there were placards of him on the wall.
I, being allergic to physical activity and fresh air didn’t involve myself with healthy social activities like team sports. I usually relegated myself to the small corner at the restaurant where I spent hours & buckets of quarters on Metal Slug & the Neo Geo Arcade machine.
I have to admit that I am biased about Ballpark Pizza. It’s such an integral part of my early teen years that I can’t help but love it. This was the first place that I tried a meatball sub so it’s hard to be objective about it.
I’ve always appreciated hot sandwiches from pizza places because they are able to toast everything to proper temperature. No 30 second BS here, you wait a couple more minutes but everything is melted and hot when it comes out. The meatballs taste great, the portions are generous and well seasoned. What I love about this sandwich (other than it’s ability to evoke memories of being a proud Third Eye Blind fan) is the texture of toasted roll with gooey melted cheese.
“Semi-Charmed Life” played on repeat in my head the whole time.
I also liked their Pizza Sub, which is pretty much like a better quality French bread pizza. You get to choose your toppings for this one, so go nuts.
