Yelp has told me that this location is closed, but I’ll keep this post just in case you want to try their other locations. The Lakewood legend Hot Chicken is probably to closest one to me now.
Legend Hot Chicken in Anaheim California is easily one of my favorite hot chicken places so far, partly because of it’s food but mostly because of it’s logo:
I never knew I needed an anime style chicken dabbing in my life until I saw it with my own eyes. So before we get into the food, I want to thank Legend Hot Chicken for opening my eyes to powerful fowl.
It took about 20 minutes to get my meal, they let me know this beforehand. It’s a bit of a wait, but Legend Hot Chicken cooks everything fresh, so it’s respectable. The sandwich and fries came out piping hot, so you may want to give it a minute to cool down and let the flavors settle.
Seems like most hot chicken places use a very buttery brioche style bun for their sandwiches. It adds some more buttery indulgence to an already indulgent spicy sandwich. Legend Hot Chicken uses a much more humble bun, one that does a good job of containing the spice a bit more.
I feel like every week I find another restaurant that has the biggest chicken I’ve had yet. Legend Hot chicken has taken the crown from the rest. It was so big that the wrapper didn’t fit around the sandwich. This was easily the messiest hot chicken sandwich that I have had. It was packed in sauce and glaze and the size of the chicken made it near impossible to keep together. I’m completely okay with that, but the napkins at Legends are those thin rectangular ones that don’t absorb anything. Make sure you ask for extra, cause they only have me four of them.
Legend really packs on the sauce, but the spicy glaze (even at a medium) was so potent that you couldn’t really taste it. It does add a little creaminess that mixes with the slaw well. The batter on this chicken is thin compared to a lot of other places, so the sauce gets through the crispiness pretty quickly.
I’d like to go back and try the chicken with one of the other flavors, like Honey bee sauce or chili cheese powder.
The sandwich combo is $13.95 with fries and a drink. It’s expensive but the portion is huge, so I’m not that upset. I ordered waffle fries instead of regular ones, so that cost me $1 more. This is one of those meals where you could probably split the combo with someone else and still be satisfied.
