When I had lunch at S’Wich Bistro in Irvine, CA I nerded out like crazy (it had nothing to do with the food).
It just so happens that S’Wich Bistro is located next to the world famous “Blizzard Entertainment,” makers of some of the most popular games in the world. They’re also responsible for much of my childhood being squandered in sunless rooms and a majority of my 20’s completely void of a social life. The restaurant has Blizzard merchandise on display throughout and I am both ashamed and proud to have recognized all of it. Could I be a bit biased because of all the nerd paraphernalia in S’wich bistro? Perhaps, but my moral obligations to sandwiches will keep my compass on the right path, I assure you.
Hot Salami, Ham, and melted cheese make for a really salty sandwich but the tomato and onion helped. I found that the fattiness of the salami, cheese, and aioli made it quite rich. The tomato is the saving grace as it’s acidity helped cut the fat and give a little variety to an otherwise salty sandwich.
I’ve always been a bit wary of trying “Korean BBQ” sandwiches because they usually are pretty generic. Luckily, I had a friend with me so we split. Truth be told, I liked this sandwich more than the “Oink Oink melt.” It was much more balanced with its sweet notes because due to the vinegary flavors of the kim chi and slaw.
S’Wich Bistro is a good hidden spot in Irvine for lunch (even if you aren’t into Blizzard games). The restaurant has a lot of character, mostly because the people that work their are incredibly friendly. The food is competently done with some good flavors and the pricing is pretty competitive for the area. You’re going to find enough variety in their menu to please most people and a fun staff who seem to really enjoy their time there. You should too, but not at night or on the weekends, because their hours are:
Mon – Fri
8am to 4pm
