In the historic Old Town Tustin you can find a quaint comfort food restaurant called American Grub. It’s modern and stylish interior can be a bit deceiving because their food has a very humble down home quality to it. I’ve found that American Grub is a good place to stop by after a small walking tour around the classic brick buildings or a visit to some of the historic sites. With the old world feel of the area, it’s only right that you would enjoy some simple and polished comfort food with it.
The interior of the restaurant is warm, I can picture bringing friends here for lunch and having a great conversation about politics or about how Pinterest has ruined the cheap furniture economy.
I’ll admit, when the lady behind the counter told me to try the AG French Dip, I was a little skeptical. It’s hard to go back to eating French Dip sandwiches after trying the Original. I’m happy to say that I really enjoyed it. The French Roll was very nicely toasted and was sturdy enough to maintain it’s integrity after being dipped. The roast beef tasted as it should while the melted cheese really helped enhance the sandwich. I realized about half way through that Dipped sandwiches really benefit from another sauce, like horseradish or a hot mustard. The sandwich is good by itself, but it seems like after the several bites my palate was craving more variety.
I know it’s not a sandwich, but I would LOVE to try their black pepper fries; and just so you don’t leave thinking less of me, I’d also like to try one of their grilled chicken sandwiches next time.
