When I decided to start looking for great Orange County burgers, I didn’t expect to find one so close to my house. Apollo Burgers in located in the corner of a small strip mall in Garden Grove, sharing a parking lot with a two vegan restaurants (seriously) and a Mexican market. The menu is unassuming, with a lot of diner classics like burgers, pastrami, and breakfast.
I didn’t expect there to be anything special here, just standard fare (that just happened to be named after one of my favorite Greek Gods and movie boxer), but I’m happy to say that there is more here than you would expect.
Apollo Burgers Bacon Cheeseburger Combo
- Hamburger
- American Cheese
- Bacon
- Lettuce
- Tomato
- onion
- House made Thousand Islands
The bacon cheeseburger combo is reasonable at $7.99 (with a little extra $ for zucchini); but what really stood out to me was the house made sauces. The house burger sauce (like a thousand islands) was excellent and mixed perfectly with the cheese and meat. The ranch dressing is also made in house, with a really nice combination of spices; It’s no wonder why they charge 50 cents for extra sides. The hamburger patty was thin with a large radius, it made for a interesting caramelized texture with crispy edges.
Don’t sleep on that fried zucchini either, it’s damn good.
If you’re visiting Disneyland and have a car, it’s just outside the border of Anaheim, and the prices are worth the drive away from the mouse and his ridiculous prices. If you’re feeling adventurous, Apollo Burgers also does a sweet Bulgogi burger that is an interesting clash of American and Korean cuisine:
