Inside of a Laguna Hills business center among forklifts and warehouses is Teddy’s Deli: a hidden gem with an eclectic lunch menu. Like a lot of great gems in Orange County, it takes a bit of navigating to get to, but I assure you, it’s worth the time. It came highly recommended by a friend who had been going for years. I’m a little upset with myself for not reviewing it sooner, because it is really good. Don’t let the simple outdoor design fool you, the interior is quite amusing. Mostly because someone painted a cheese wheel on the wall:
Note: Teddy’s Deli is open only for lunch and closed on the weekends, so plan your trip accordingly.
Teddy’s Deli #26 Tri-tip Steak Sandwich
- Marinated tri-tip
- provolone cheese
- Grilled peppers and onions
- Lettuce/Tomato
- Mayo
- Toasted Ciabatta
Teddy’s is proof that you don’t need a big place to create big flavor. The tri-tip sandwich had a great marinade, with a little smoke and spice that mixed very well with the toasted ciabatta. Sandwiches like these really benefit from having a sturdy crusty bread because it soaks up the juices without getting soggy. What I appreciated about this sandwich is that it felt like everything served a purpose, you could taste all the vegetables and they balanced the spice quite nicely.
There seems to be a little bit of everything at Teddy’s Deli, the menu is big enough to fit most tastes, so it’s worth a try. If their tri-tip sandwich is any indication of the quality of their menu, you are in good hands. It turns out they have a cheesesteak on their menu; I feel obligated to try it no. Also, their burgers seems to be ridiculously huge, so I may have to take multiple trips (or one big gluttonous trip, where I food coma in the parking lot).
